Short romance stories for the end of the day, three to ten minutes each. Some are already written and waiting in the collection. Others do not exist until you ask for them, and take a few minutes to write.

Everything past the door is written for adults, so the door asks your age once. "Remember me on this device" keeps you in for a year; without it you are asked again the next time you open your browser.

Choose what you are in the mood for with the six chips, type what you want in the box, or do both. All of it is optional: with nothing chosen you get the whole collection, and the box on its own is enough to have a story written for you.

The box is where the particular things go, such as a job, a season, a first line, or a thing you never want to read. While yours is being written you can read something from the collection; when it is ready a card slides up at the bottom of the screen.

Tap the middle of a story to put the controls away, and tap again to bring them back. "Aa" opens the settings: four papers, six text sizes, three line spacings, a narrow or wide measure, scrolling or page turns, and a switch that stops the screen going dark.

Each story remembers where you got to, so opening it again puts you back at the paragraph you left.

The bookmark at the bottom of a story keeps it. Saved stories are under Yours.

"Put it away" is a different thing, for when someone walks in: it swaps the screen for a plain page that gives nothing away, and a tap brings you back to where you were. The browser tab never says anything but Told at Midnight, and a story's address never contains its title.

A story written for you is yours. Nothing you ask for goes into the collection unless you put it there, with the switch under the story, and stories in the collection carry no name: nobody can tell who asked for one.

What you save and how you rate stories is yours alone, and is never shown to another reader.

No sign-up, no email, no password. The app knows you by a cookie in this browser, and that is what ties your saved stories, your ratings and the stories you asked for to you.

It has one consequence worth knowing: on another device, or after you clear this browser's cookies, you arrive as someone new, and what you saved is no longer linked to you.

It works the other way round too. "Forget this device", at the foot of Yours, deletes everything held against this browser and clears the door's answer with it - which is how you take back "Remember me on this device" on a computer other people use.

If a story does not come together, nothing is lost. Press "Try again" and the next attempt will be different.
